Ebury Hill Camping and Caravanning Club Site - 2006 to 2009

We have visited this site on several occasions and in 2007 used it as a starting and ending point for a six week tour of the Lakes, Scotland and the north of England.  I have to say that when we returned there at the end of the tour, we felt as if we were coming home.

We visited twice in 2008, on one occasion for three weeks.

This is an “own sans essential” site, which suits us as we prefer this type of site.

The wildlife and general surroundings give this site a feeling of being cut off from the world.  It’s wonderful!  Many people take bird feeders and it’s really nice to sit outside quietly and watch the birds going about their business.

We prefer to pitch in the quarry area which is usually very quiet.  Above the quarry, there are plenty of pitches and a small playground for children.  The one thing we like about this site is the randomness of the pitches.  There are very few uniform rows of units, many face different directions.

Shrewsbury is very close and can easily be reached using Park and Ride costing £1.20 per adult.  If you have a National Senior Citizen’s Travel Card, the bus company will accept them.  The Sunday Market which is held on the Park and Ride car park is well worth a visit.  A new Tesco Extra superstore has now opened next to the Park and Ride and there are a few “Takeaways” and a Laundrette just down the road from there.  The Sunday Market, held on the Park and Ride site is well worth a visit.

The pub on the A53, called The Dog in the Road, serves delicious meals at a reasonable price. (Turn left out of the site and left again at the end of the road – the pub is a few hundred yards down the road on the right.)

The site team are really friendly and helpful - and work very hard!  On our last visit, they lent us their ladder so that we could carry out running repairs to the front gutter and replace our rooflight with a Heki.

I only wish the site was open all year.

When my brother died in 2009, the site team accommodated us at very short notice and we were able to carry out all the tasks required at a time like this from the comfort of our own caravan.

We have since moved to within a few miles of Ebury Hill but I’m sure we will stay there again in the future.
